Attachments, previews and downloads
See what can be previewed and how to handle files that do not open.

Read an attachment card
An attachment card shows its name, size and file type, such as PDF, PNG or ZIP. The type icon helps identify the format, but a filename or extension does not prove a file is safe. Open it from its own message, especially in a long thread.
Available previews
| Type | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Supported images | An in-reader preview depending on media type and preview limits. |
| Page previews with navigation and zoom; the current preview limit is 15 MiB. | |
| Supported text | Text viewing when its media type and size are supported. |
| Other documents or active formats | Download; do not assume in-browser previews for Word, Excel, ZIP, HTML or SVG. |
If a preview fails
- Wait for loading to finish, then reopen the attachment from its message.
- For damaged, password-protected or oversized PDFs, download the file and use a suitable viewer.
- If downloading also fails, check mailbox access and connectivity; the issue is not just preview presentation.
